Detailed introduction
CEA is an acidic glycoprotein with characteristics of human embryonic antigens, present on the surface of cancer cells derived from endodermal cells, and is a structural protein of the cell membrane. It is formed in the cytoplasm, secreted through the cell membrane into the extracellular space, and then enters surrounding body fluids. In healthy adults, serum CEA levels are generally low. Abnormal CEA expression and elevated concentrations may be associated with various types of cancer, including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer. It is noteworthy that CEA is also present in fetal intestinal tissue, and elevated serum CEA levels can occur in certain non-malignant diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Furthermore, in normal cells, the molecular weight of the CEA protein is approximately 72 kDa, but in cancer cell lines and samples from cancer patients, the detected molecular weight of CEA can be as high as 180 to 200 kDa, indicating increased and differential glycosylation modifications of CEA in cancer cells.
▏Intended Use
For the quantitative in vitro determination of Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) levels in human serum, plasma, and whole blood.
▏Storage And Stability
Store the kit sealed and protected from light at 4°C–30°C. Shelf life: 24 months.
After opening, use within 1 hour under conditions of ≤60% humidity and 10°C–30°C.
