Detailed introduction

hs-CRP+CRP serves primarily as a non-specific inflammatory marker and is used to assess the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

CRP is a serum β-globulin with a relative molecular mass of 115,000–140,000. It was named in 1930 due to its ability to bind to the C-polysaccharide of pneumococcus. It is a cyclic pentamer composed of five identical subunits linked by non-covalent bonds, synthesized by hepatocytes. CRP can be detected in various body fluids, including serum, cerebrospinal fluid, and pleural and peritoneal fluids. The half-life of CRP is approximately 15 hours. In healthy individuals, CRP levels are very low. However, after tissue damage or acute infection, CRP levels begin to rise within 6–8 hours, reaching a peak at 24–48 hours, which can be hundreds or even thousands of times higher than normal values. The increase is proportional to the severity of the infection. After inflammation subsides, CRP levels rapidly decline and return to normal within 7–12 days. Persistent elevated CRP levels may indicate chronic inflammation or autoimmune diseases. CRP levels do not increase during viral infections, and its changes are not influenced by individual differences, overall health status, or therapeutic drugs. High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) is the most effective predictive marker for cardiovascular events in healthy populations or patients with angina (or myocardial infarction), independent of lipid risk factors. It should be tested alongside lipid indicators for primary prevention, providing predictive value for individuals with normal lipid profiles.

Intended Use

It is used in vitro quantitative detection of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) in human serum, plasma, and whole blood.
