Detailed introduction
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpesvirus 4, has a seroprevalence rate of over 90% in adults. EBV is primarily transmitted through saliva but can also spread via blood transfusion. In addition to causing primary infection leading to infectious mononucleosis (IM), EBV is associated with non-neoplastic severe EBV-related diseases such as chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV) and EBV-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH).
